Painted pine, 22K gold leaf, cedar, walnut, medium density fiber board
RobertoCardinale presents the Unity Temple, designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
Cardinale's sculptures are artistic expressions of famous church edifices. Inspired by the Unity Temple, built between 1906 and 1908 anddesign by Frank Lloyd Wright, Cardinale uses his own artistic mastery to construct this Cubist Style church from rough sawn pine with multiple faucets. The final scraping reveals shades of color, which he finishes by drizzling 22k gold leaf and delicately rubbing the graphite throughout. This deepens the tones and gives the works an aged appearance suggesting the history and wear the structure has endured.
This piece is part of Roberto Cardinale's exhibition Marcel Breuer's Whitney, exhibitingbeautiful examples of contemporary art documenting a spiritual and architectural legacy.
